About Brighton

Located approximately 20 miles northeast of downtown Denver, Brighton is a home rule municipality spanning Adams and Weld counties along Colorado’s Front Range. As the county seat of Adams County, the city plays a central administrative and economic role within the region while maintaining strong ties to its agricultural heritage.

Originally founded in 1871 as a railroad and stage depot known as Hughes, the community was renamed Brighton in 1879 and formally incorporated in 1887. Over time, it evolved from a farming-based settlement into a growing suburban city that balances residential development, commercial expansion, and industrial investment.

Brighton offers convenient access to major transportation corridors, including Interstate 76 and U.S. Highway 85, connecting residents and businesses to the greater Denver metropolitan area. The city continues to experience steady growth, supported by expanding infrastructure, retail centers, and employment opportunities.

Economically, Brighton benefits from a diverse base that includes agriculture, retail, manufacturing, and renewable energy production. Notably, two major facilities operated by Vestas contribute significantly to the local workforce through wind turbine blade and nacelle manufacturing.

Community amenities include parks, trails, recreational facilities, and commercial centers such as the Prairie Center shopping district. Ongoing development initiatives aim to preserve Brighton’s historic character while accommodating population growth and economic vitality.
